Spiced Espresso Martini

I had this Spiced Espresso Martini over the winter months, during Christmas and my birthday, it’s in February. I like that you can slightly change the quantities to depending on your flavour preference. Making your own coffee liqueur is super easy as well, as I know Kahlua can be a bit overly sweet.
This cocktail was first made back in the mid-1980’s in London, from a request from a model looking for a cocktail that would invigorated, then inebirate, an all in one drink.

Ingredients:
1tbsp Spiced Ginger syrup

50ml Vodka
30ml Coffee liqueur e.g. Kahlua
25ml Espresso
Garnish with a dusting of cinnamon or nutmeg, whichever is your preference

Steps:
An hour before making the cocktail, you can make the coffee so that it has time to cool down. I tend to make a cafetières with ground coffee beans and then any left over coffee can be frozen or heated up for a coffee later. Of course you can use decaf coffee as well for this as well.

In a shaker with ice, add all the ingredients. I have read about how Kahlua might be on the sweeter side. So you can reduce some of the spiced syrup or keep the syrup as is and decrease the Kahlua and increase the espresso. Of course, you can venture to make your own coffee liqeuer. Recommend this recipe – homemade coffee liqueur – of course I tend to reduce the sugar in these recipes and adjust for my palate.
